PHS prepares for The Winter One Acts

Perrysburg High School students are busy preparing for The Winter One Acts. The production provides a unique experience for both actors and audience as attendees are seated on the stage. This evening of intimate theatre features a selection of one-act plays ranging from comedy to drama. Perrysburg’s one acts have received numerous Superior ratings at the Ohio Theatre Alliance play festival.

A student cast of 45 and technical crew of 30 are directed by Rob Gentry, Director of Theatre, along with Assistant Director Deb Drew.

In Present Tense, it's the day of the high-school prom, and Norm Prescot, a love-smitten teenager, is beset with doubts. Will his girlfriend, Ann, keep their date or will she claim that she has to stay at the bedside of her aunt Gladys, who (she says) has been stricken with gallstones? As he waits, Norm's agonies multiply. In a series of imaginative blackouts Norm's worst fears become real as attendees will see all that is going on inside his head through wildly exaggerated daydreams depicting the fear and embarrassment of possible rejection by the girl he loves and the gnawing suspicion that she has not been faithful.

Lockdown takes place in a dark classroom, where eight students sit in an "official lockdown," not knowing if it's just a drill or an actual emergency. When a hysterical younger girl bolts from the room and the teacher follows, the remaining students are left alone to decide if it's safer to stay or run.

Hamlet! The Ultra-Dramatic Musical Comedy Thrill-Mageddon is a lightning-quick, hilarious perversion of the greatest play in the English language. After their budget is slashed, the drama club turns to Shakespeare's greatest tragedy to raise cash, but it's not tickets that are going to fund this year's show: It's sweet, sweet corporate sponsorship and mid-play commercial advertising. The sponsors demand changes in the stodgy old script, but who cares if Shakespeare never wrote musical numbers with back-up dancers or post-apocalyptic zombie battles? He's dead and he can't complain.

The Winter One Acts will be performed January 24, 25, 26, 31 and February 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m and January 27 and February 3 at 2:30 p.m. at Perrysburg High School, 13385 Roachton Road. Online ticket sales begin on Sunday, January 20 at: www.TinyUrl.com/PerrysburgTickets. Tickets may also be purchased at the box office on January 22 from 7-8 p.m. as well as one hour prior to each performance. Tickets are $8 and all seats are reserved. Senior Stinger Activity passes are accepted at the box office.
